At the end of the event, I had the opportunity to interview a other volunteer from New York Cares.

Amanda had been volunteer with New York Cares for six months, she had completed  two events, one was the orientation session with New York Cares organization and the second was the dinner organized for the kids. For being volunteer  during six months that’s not very much, but in a same time I know how difficult it is when you are student. I asked her was her motivation to have been volunteer.
Amanda: “ My motivation was..., I wanted to get back to the community, I wanted to help out anywhere I could, and New York Cares is the best place to do that, many opportunities, I can help anyone I want to, it’s very communion, there’s a lot of people who do that and I feel I need to get back to where I come from”
She explained that this experience opened her eyes on how differently people live and how differently people are, you can’t judge people by only their exterior, everyone has a story.
I wanted to know if she ever meet some difficulties during her volunteer work.
“ Answer kid’s need, make sure everything is moving”
She succeed to face those difficulties thanks to the team leader who gave everybody a work their own responsibilities”
I: “ in a few words how would you describe New York Cares?’
Amanda:” Inspirational and very influential”

From my personal experience I would add lovely, caring others, accessible to anybody and flexible.
I like kids a lot, I like to play with them and make happy and here was a great opportunity to give my time to let kids from family living in difficult situation, to have a great time by eating with their family, playing and trying to win in front of a challenge. Here was another form of voluntarism.
